SVDSN Taiko: Workshop with San Jose Taiko

On Saturday, January 25, SVDSN will hold a Japanese taiko drumming workshop for self-advocates, ages 12 and up, and their siblings. This is a great opportunity for our continuing taiko participants to play in an inclusive setting with San Jose Taiko. 

Participants will have a hands-on experience in ensemble Japanese drumming with San Jose Taiko. Taiko is an art form that lends itself to inclusivity and unity-- it gives everyone a voice and the opportunity to be heard. SVDSN is excited to be partnering with San Jose Taiko for this special workshop. San Jose Taiko supported SVDSN when we first began offering taiko workshops for our self advocates in 2018. They also supported our performance at San Jose Day 2024. 

A few things to note for this workshop: 

• We will be using San Jose Taiko's drums. They are louder than the adaptive drums that we use for SVDSN classes. Please feel free to bring headphones or earplugs, if desired. 
• Please bring a water bottle and wear comfortable clothing. (We will take water breaks during the workshop.) 
• An adult, age 18 or older, must accompany the self advocate. Drop-off is permitted, but the responsible adult must be able to return to the studio within 5-10 minutes, if needed.
