SVDSN Taiko: Workshop with Stanford Taiko

On Saturday, January 11, SVDSN will hold a Japanese taiko drumming workshop for self-advocates, ages 12 and up, and their siblings. This is a great opportunity for our continuing taiko particpants to have an opportunity to play in an inclusive setting with Stanford Taiko, a local collegiate performance group. 

Participants will have a hands-on experience in ensemble Japanese drumming with Stanford Taiko. Taiko is an art form that lends itself to inclusivity and unity-- it gives everyone a voice and the opportunity to be heard. SVDSN is excited to be partnering with Stanford Taiko for this special workshop. Several of the Stanford Taiko members have participated as volunteers at the SVDSN Taiko classes. We are excited to have them host us in their drumming space. 

A few things to note for this workshop: 

• We will be using Stanford Taiko's drums. They are louder than the adaptive drums that we use for SVDSN classes. Please feel free to bring headphones or earplugs, if desired. 
• Please bring a water bottle and wear comfortable clothing. (We will take water breaks during the workshop.) 
• An adult, age 18 or older, must accompany the self advocate. Drop-off is permitted, but the responsible adult must remain on the Stanford campus during the workshop. (Starbucks and CoHo are within a 5-minute walk, along with a few other fast casual dining options at Tresidder Student Union.)

Cost: $25/workshop for SVDSN members*; $50/workshop for non-SVDSN members
